Campaigning for Trish Beadle, 5th Sept

Update from Mark White

First canvassing session of the Thirsk by-election tonight. Thanks to Trish Beadle , Philip Smith , Richard Walter, Mick Johnston, and Deanna Pearse. We knocked 168 doors and found a fair number of Labour promises and our core messages were positively received. All this and a photo too! The nights are shortening so we could really do with help to get round.

T&MCLP News Bulletin #26

5th. September  2018

Thirsk By-election 4th October 2018

We have a great chance to take a seat on Hambleton District Council from the Tories.  Our candidate Trish Beadle stood as an Independent in the 2015 District Council election and polled 778 votes without any support; a testament to how well known and respected she is in the ward. The Tory in second place polled 1,423 votes. Combining Trish’s popularity with our ability to get numbers out on the streets supporting her we definitely can win.  As a result of the campaigning that Vale of York Branch have been doing over the last two months we already have  100 Labour promises.

The Branch has created a campaign plan for the next four weeks, culminating in all day Election Day effort to get out the vote. In a by-election, when turnouts tend to be low, this will be crucial. The plan starts with a door knocking session on 5th September starting 6.00 and meeting up at Blytheway Stores, 10 Sutton Rd, Thirsk YO7 1DJ. This is followed by two or three leafletting and door knocking sessions every week up to 4th October. The full campaign programme is attached with contacts for each event. This is a well organised campaign being run by a keen local team. With your help we can win this one, which would be a huge step forward in giving voters proper representation and raising the profile of the Party across the Constituency.  Every member should do their best to get to at least one of the campaign events. If you haven’t campaigned before the Team will look after you and pair you with an experienced campaigner. This is also a wonderful opportunity to get experience of campaigning ahead of the 2019 Council elections when we will be contesting a large number of seats.
